What's My Skin Type?

Are you confused about all those skin products you see and you can't determine which one would suit you. This is because you need to determine exactly what type of skin you have so you can take proper care of your gorgeous skin.

In order to make the right decision and to take proper care of your skin you need to know exactly the type of skin that you have. There are 5 basic skin types which are genetically determined. You cannot choose what type of skin you have, your genes decide that for you.

Skin care products are usually designed to suit every skin type individually, so a skin care product destined for dry skin is not suitable for the rest of the skin types and vice versa. This is why you need to know your skin in order to make sure that you provide the care it needs in order to look its best.

Normal Skin

Normal skin is the type of skin which is not oily but not dry either. This type of skin produces the exact amount of sebum the skin needs. The pores are small and not visible. It is not prone to acne but that doesn't mean that pimples and blackheads will not appear.
Use products which are especially designed for normal skin.

Dry Skin

Dry skin is the type of skin which doesn't produce enough sebum, leaving the skin matte. You will experience tightness especially after washing your face with water. The pores are very small, almost invisible.
Use products that are destined for dry skin because these products contain more oils which will hydrate the skin so it won't flake and feel as uncomfortable.

Oily Skin

Oily skin is the type of skin which produces too much sebum. The face has a greasy appearance, especially after waking up. Your face will become shiny after a few hours after you washed it. It is characterized by large visible pores as well. This type of complexion is prone to acne and skin problems due to the activity of the sebaceous glands.
Use products which are alcohol free and destined for this type of complexion.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is a mixture between oily skin and dry skin. The skin produces excess sebum on some parts of the face and doesn't produce enough on others. Usually the oily part is the T-zone, meaning the forehead and the nose area, leaving the cheeks and chin dry. The pores are more visible in the T-zone and less visible on the dry parts of the skin.
Use products that are especially designed for this type of complexion or treat each area separate, according to it's skin type.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is usually mistaken with dry skin. The difference between the two is that this type of skin easily gets irritated. It can't stand certain cosmetic products and it is very sensitive when it comes to cosmetics.
Use only specially designed cosmetic products for sensitive creams because they contain ingredients which sooth and don't irritate the skin.
